From Canceled to Captured: A Golden Hour Maternity Session at Bird Haven Greenhouse & Conservatory in Joliet, IL

Certain moments in life can’t be repeated. A maternity glow, a newborn’s first days, a child’s milestone—these are once-in-a-lifetime memories. That’s why it breaks my heart when I hear from families whose photographers cancel at the last minute, leaving them without someone to capture those fleeting moments.

Not long ago, I got a call from a dad in Tinley Park who was desperate for help. His wife was dressed in a stunning maternity gown, her hair and makeup were professionally done, and their daughter was ready for pictures. Then, just one hour before their session, their photographer canceled.

I was at home in my pajamas when the call came in, but I couldn’t let this family lose such a special day. I quickly got ready, grabbed my gear, and rushed to one of my favorite locations—Bird Haven Greenhouse & Conservatory, 225 Gougar Road, Joliet, IL 60432. The Conservatory is open indoors from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM daily, and outdoors until dusk, making it a gorgeous year-round photography spot.



The timing was perfect, with golden hour casting the most magical light. Together, we created a breathtaking maternity session with mom, dad, and their daughter surrounded by the beauty of Bird Haven.

During that session, I learned something even more amazing—she was pregnant with twin girls. Later, they hired me for their newborn session, which was my very first twin session. It turned out to be one of the most incredible experiences of my career. The babies were stunning, every image was perfect, and they invested in one of my top heirloom collections. Most importantly, I now have clients for life.

This experience reminded me of something so important: photography is about more than taking pictures. It’s about trust. Families deserve a photographer who will show up, no matter what.
