How to Get Ready for Your Newborn Photography Session

Preparing for your newborn session doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. These early days go by so quickly — here’s a simple guide to help you arrive relaxed and fully ready so we can create beautiful, timeless portraits of your baby.

When to Book Your Newborn Session

Each stage of your baby’s first weeks has its own kind of beauty.
The general guide:

Days 6–14:
• Sleepy, curled poses
• Soft, creamy skin

Weeks 3–6:
• More awake and expressive
• Bright eyes, gentle stretches
• Cozy, naturally posed images

First 2 Months:
• Lifestyle-style moments
• At-home or studio storytelling
• Focus on connection more than posing

Booking early ensures you have a guaranteed spot during your preferred stage.

1. Schedule Early

Newborns typically photograph best during days 6–14, when they are naturally sleepy. Reaching out during your second trimester is ideal so we can pencil in your due date and adjust once baby arrives.

2. Feed Baby Right Before the Session

A full tummy helps baby settle comfortably. You’ll arrive a little early so you can feed baby in the studio before we begin.

3. Dress Baby in Loose Pajamas

Choose something easy to remove. Bring:

• A pacifier

• Extra bottles

• Spare diapers

• Baby blanket

• Any sentimental items you want photographed

All wraps, outfits, props, headbands, and accessories are provided.

4. Keep Clothing Simple for Family Photos

Stick to neutral, soft tones like cream, white, beige, taupe, blush, or grey. This keeps your images clean, cohesive, and timeless.

5. Safety Comes First

Your baby will always be handled gently and safely. The studio is warm, clean, and fully prepared for newborn comfort.

6. Relax — I Take Care of Everything

Once you arrive, you can truly relax. I handle the soothing, wrapping, posing, and guiding the entire session.

A full newborn prep guide will be sent to you immediately after booking your session.

Newborn photography is about more than creating cute baby pictures — it’s about preserving your family’s first story.

In today’s digital world, AI is everywhere—even in photography. From artistic edits to creating entire scenes from scratch, AI images are popping up across social media. While this technology can feel overwhelming or even concerning, I believe it has its place when used in the right way. As a professional photographer, I want to share how AI can be used for good—and why real, professional photography still matters most when it comes to preserving your family’s story.

Certain moments in life can’t be repeated. A maternity glow, a newborn’s first days, a child’s milestone—these are once-in-a-lifetime memories. That’s why it breaks my heart when I hear from families whose photographers cancel at the last minute, leaving them without someone to capture those fleeting moments. Not long ago, I got a call from a dad in Tinley Park who was desperate for help. His wife was dressed in a stunning maternity gown, her hair and makeup were professionally done, and their daughter was ready for pictures. Then, just one hour before their session , their photographer canceled.
